Question 1

What should I check on a used electric Volvo?

Accepted Answer

A battery state-of-health report and whether the high-voltage battery warranty still runs. Ask how the car was charged, check the charging cable comes with it and that the over-the-air software updates are current.

Question 2

Is a used Volvo XC40 Recharge the same car as the EX40?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Volvo renamed the XC40 Recharge EX40 and the C40 Recharge EC40 in 2024. The bigger change came for model year 2024, when single-motor versions switched to a more efficient rear-wheel-drive motor.

Question 3

Do used electric Volvos have all-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

The twin-motor versions do, badged Twin Motor or P8, with a motor on each axle. Single-motor ones drive the front wheels on early XC40 and C40 Recharge and the rear wheels from model year 2024.

Question 4

Does a used electric Volvo pay car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

That depends on your canton. Zürich, Solothurn and Glarus exempt electric cars, Bern charges half and gives 60% off in the first years, while Geneva adds a surcharge by empty weight that an XC40 Recharge pays.

Question 5

Which versions does the new electric Volvo range come in?

Accepted Answer

The new EX30 has 272 or 428 PS, the EX40 and EC40 238 to 442 PS, the EX60 374 to 680 PS, and the EX90 and ES90 333 to 680 PS. Each comes with one motor or two, in trims from Core to Ultra.
