Question 1

Is a Volvo XC90 automatic good for towing?

Accepted Answer

Yes, its torque-converter automatic and AWD make it a strong car for caravans and horse trailers. The permitted towing weight depends on the engine and is entered in the Fahrzeugausweis, the registration document.

Question 2

What should I check on a used Volvo XC90's automatic gearbox?

Accepted Answer

That it shifts smoothly from cold and does not hesitate pulling away or flare between gears. A full service history, with any gearbox work noted, adds confidence on a high-mileage car.

Question 3

Does the Volvo XC90 T8 have the same gearbox as the diesel?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the T8 plug-in hybrid also uses the eight-speed Geartronic, while an electric motor drives the rear axle. That is how it gets all-wheel drive without a propshaft.

Question 4

Is the new Volvo XC90 sold only as an automatic?

Accepted Answer

Yes, every new XC90 has an automatic and all-wheel drive, whether the B5 mild hybrid with 250 hp or the T8 plug-in hybrid with 461 hp, in Core, Plus and Ultra trims, at list price beside the used cars.
