Was my used VW TDI affected by the diesel scandal?

Cars with the EA189 engine, the 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 TDI built until about 2015, needed a software update, and the 1.6 also a flow straightener in the intake. A VW dealer can check from the chassis number whether it was done.

What is AdBlue on a VW TDI?

A urea solution injected into the exhaust of newer TDIs to cut nitrogen oxides. The tank is topped up between services, and the car warns well in advance, because once it is empty the engine will not restart.

Is a used VW diesel suited to short trips?

Not really: the particulate filter needs regular longer drives at motorway speed to burn off soot. A TDI that only did short town trips may have a clogged filter, so ask how the car was used.

Which new VW models are still sold with a diesel engine in Switzerland?

The Golf, Passat, Tiguan and Tayron still come with TDI engines, as do the Caddy, Multivan, California, Caravelle and Crafter, with a manual or automatic gearbox depending on the model. Each version appears at its list price beside the used cars.
