Question 1

What should I check on a manual VW Caddy?

Accepted Answer

The clutch and the dual-mass flywheel, which work hard on a loaded van and on diesels: listen for rattles at idle and feel for slipping on a climb. Every gear should engage cleanly.

Question 2

Manual or DSG: which is better on a used VW Caddy?

Accepted Answer

A manual is cheaper to buy and to repair, and suits a van that often carries weight. A DSG makes town deliveries and stop-and-go traffic easier, but its mechatronic unit and clutches are costly when they fail.

Question 3

When is a used VW Caddy due for its MFK?

Accepted Answer

Five years after first registration, then three years later, then every two years; the road traffic office sends the summons. Check the date of the last MFK on the documents before you buy.

Question 4

Is the new VW Caddy still available with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the 116 PS 1.5 TSI petrol comes with a manual in Trend, Trend Maxi and Life Maxi, and the 102 PS 2.0 TDI in Trend, Trend Maxi and Life. The 122 PS TDI, the eHybrid and the California come with DSG.
