Question 1

Which TDI engine is best in a used VW Caddy?

Accepted Answer

The common-rail 2.0 TDI, used from 2010 on, is the usual choice: it pulls well when loaded and suits the Maxi. The older pump-injector 1.9 TDI is robust but louder and meets an older emission standard.

Question 2

Does a VW Caddy TDI need AdBlue?

Accepted Answer

The fifth-generation Caddy's 2.0 TDI does, with its own tank to top up between services. On older Caddys check the exact version, as not every TDI uses AdBlue.

Question 3

Is a diesel VW Caddy a good choice for short trips?

Accepted Answer

Less so: the particulate filter needs regular longer runs to burn off its soot, and short urban hops can clog it. For mostly short distances, a TSI petrol or the eHybrid suits better.

Question 4

Which diesel versions does the new VW Caddy have?

Accepted Answer

The new Caddy's 2.0 TDI comes with 102 PS and a manual gearbox in Trend and Life, or with 122 PS and DSG in Trend, Life and Style, standard or Maxi. The Caddy California camper also uses the 122 PS TDI.
