Question 1

Which engine does the Toyota Land Cruiser diesel have?

Accepted Answer

Recent Land Cruisers use the 2.8 D-4D four-cylinder, in the J150 from its 2015 update and in the J250 that followed. Earlier J150s had a 3.0 D-4D.

Question 2

Where do the Toyota Proace's diesel engines come from?

Accepted Answer

The Proace and Proace City are built with Stellantis, as twins of the Citroën Jumpy and Berlingo and their Peugeot and Opel siblings, and share their diesel engines. Parts and know-how are therefore widely available.

Question 3

What should I check on a used diesel Toyota Hilux?

Accepted Answer

Signs of hard work: towing, heavy loads and off-road use show in the clutch or gearbox, the leaf springs and the chassis. Check the frame for corrosion, especially on a pick-up used on salted winter roads.

Question 4

Which new Toyotas are still sold with a diesel engine?

Accepted Answer

The Land Cruiser and the Proace and Proace City vans, with a manual or an automatic gearbox depending on the version. Each appears at its official list price beside the used cars.
