Question 1

Is a used Toyota RAV4 hybrid reliable?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Toyota's hybrid system has a strong record: no clutch, no starter motor and no conventional gearbox to wear. A hybrid health check at a Toyota garage shows the battery's condition.

Question 2

Toyota RAV4 hybrid or plug-in: which should I buy?

Accepted Answer

The self-charging hybrid suits drivers who cannot charge at home or who cover long distances. The plug-in is far more powerful and runs much of a daily commute on electricity, but only pays off when charged regularly.

Question 3

Does every Toyota RAV4 hybrid have four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

No, the hybrids came with front-wheel drive or AWD-i, so check each car before counting on it in snow. The fifth-generation plug-in always has all-wheel drive.

Question 4

Which hybrid versions does the new Toyota RAV4 come in?

Accepted Answer

The new RAV4 comes as a 2.5 hybrid with 185 hp and front-wheel drive or 194 hp with all-wheel drive, and as a plug-in hybrid with 272 hp and front-wheel drive or 309 hp with all-wheel drive, at list price beside the used cars.
