Question 1

Does every used SUV have four-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

No, many compact SUVs drive only the front wheels, and so do some versions of larger ones. The badge (4x4, quattro, xDrive, 4Motion, 4MATIC, AWD) or the technical data tell you which you have.

Question 2

Is an SUV more expensive to tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

In cantons that tax weight, such as Bern, Lucerne, St. Gallen or Aargau, a heavy SUV pays more than a lighter car. In Geneva and Vaud CO₂ counts too, and in Graubünden or Valais the engine's displacement.

Question 3

What should I check on a used four-wheel-drive SUV?

Accepted Answer

Uneven tyre wear and noises on tight turns, which can point to the drivetrain, and whether the all-wheel-drive coupling or transfer case has been serviced. Many systems need tyres of the same make and wear on all four wheels.

Question 4

Which new SUVs are sold in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

From compact ones such as the Ford Puma, Hyundai Kona and Alfa Romeo Junior to the Kia Sportage, VW Tiguan and Toyota RAV4, and up to the Range Rover, Mercedes GLE and Porsche Cayenne Coupé, as petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric versions.
