Question 1

Which petrol engine is best in a used Skoda?

Accepted Answer

For a Fabia, Scala or Kamiq the 1.0 TSI is enough in town and on the flat. An Octavia or Karoq is happier with the 1.5 TSI on motorways and passes, and the 2.0 TSI is reserved for the RS and the 4x4 versions.

Question 2

Do older Skoda TSI engines have timing-chain problems?

Accepted Answer

The early 1.2 TSI with a timing chain is known for the chain stretching, so listen for a rattle on a cold start. The later 1.0, 1.5 and most 1.4 TSI engines use a toothed belt instead.

Question 3

What is a Skoda m-HEV or e-TEC?

Accepted Answer

It is a 48-volt mild hybrid fitted to the 1.0 or 1.5 TSI, always with DSG. It helps the engine pull away and lets the car coast with the engine off, but it cannot drive on electricity alone.

Question 4

Which petrol engines does the new Skoda have in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The 1.0 TSI in the Fabia, Scala and Kamiq, the 1.5 TSI, as an m-HEV mild hybrid in the Kodiaq and Octavia Combi, and the 2.0 TSI with 4x4 or as an RS. All use DSG except the 95 PS Fabia, which has a manual gearbox.
