Question 1

Which DSG gearbox does a used Skoda have?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the engine. Smaller petrol engines use a seven-speed dry-clutch DSG, while the stronger petrol engines, the TDI diesels and the 4x4 versions use a wet-clutch DSG, whose oil must be changed at the intervals in the service book.

Question 2

What should I check on a Skoda DSG during a test drive?

Accepted Answer

Pull away gently and manoeuvre with the gearbox cold. Jerks, shudder or a delay before the car moves can point to a worn clutch pack or a faulty mechatronic unit.

Question 3

Is every Skoda 4x4 an automatic?

Accepted Answer

Not the older ones: the Yeti, Octavia and Superb 4x4 were also sold with a manual gearbox. Today's 4x4 versions come with DSG only.

Question 4

Which new Skodas come with an automatic gearbox in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

Almost all of them. From the Fabia and Scala to the Kodiaq and Superb Combi, petrol, diesel and iV plug-in versions use DSG, and the electric Epiq, Elroq, Enyaq and Peaq drive with one gear; only the 95 PS Fabia 1.0 TSI is manual.
