What should I check on a used manual SEAT?

The clutch: it should bite cleanly and not slip when you accelerate hard in a high gear. On TDI diesels and stronger TSI engines, a rattle at idle can point to a worn dual-mass flywheel.

Is a manual SEAT cheaper to run than one with DSG?

Usually yes: a worn clutch costs far less to replace than a dual-clutch gearbox repair. A manual is also often cheaper to buy as a used car.

Which SEAT models came with a manual gearbox?

Almost all of them: the Mii, Ibiza, Arona, Leon, Ateca and Tarraco, and the Alhambra with some engines. The most powerful versions, such as the 2.0 TSI with 4Drive, came only with DSG.
