Was my SEAT TDI affected by the diesel emissions scandal?

SEAT diesels with the EA189 engine, built until about 2015, were part of the Volkswagen Group recall and received a software update, on the 1.6 TDI with a small extra part in the intake. Ask for proof that the update was done.

Do newer SEAT TDIs need AdBlue?

Yes, diesels meeting Euro 6d, such as the fourth-generation Leon from 2020, clean their exhaust with AdBlue from a separate tank. Running out stops the car from restarting, so keep it topped up.

Does a diesel SEAT pay more car tax in Switzerland?

It depends on the canton. Ticino weighs a diesel's power slightly more than a petrol's, while cantons that tax CO₂, such as Geneva or Vaud, can favour a frugal TDI.

SEAT's diesels are the Volkswagen Group's TDIs, mostly the 1.6 and the 2.0. They suit long motorway runs, mountain roads and towing, while a car driven mainly on short trips risks a clogged particulate filter.
