Question 1

Are Renault E-Tech hybrids available with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

No, E-Tech hybrids use a multi-mode automatic gearbox and electric Renaults have single-speed drive. A manual Renault has a petrol, diesel or LPG engine.

Question 2

Manual or EDC on a used Renault?

Accepted Answer

A manual is simpler and usually cheaper to maintain over the years. The EDC dual-clutch is more relaxed in town traffic, but check it for jerky starts and slow shifts at low speed.

Question 3

What should I check on a manual Renault dCi diesel?

Accepted Answer

Check the clutch bite point and listen for a rattle at idle or when switching off, which can point to a worn dual-mass flywheel. On a Kangoo or Trafic used for work, the clutch has often done heavy stop-start duty.

Question 4

Which new Renault models have a manual gearbox in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The Clio TCe 115 in Evolution trim, the Grand Kangoo TCe 130 in Equilibre and Techno, and the Trafic Passenger and Grand Passenger with the Blue dCi 110 or 150. The rest of the new range is automatic.
