Question 1

Which diesel engines did Renault use?

Accepted Answer

The 1.5 dCi powered the Clio, Captur, Mégane and Kangoo, while the 1.6 and 2.0 dCi went into larger models such as the Kadjar, Talisman, Koleos and Trafic. From 2018 Renault switched to Blue dCi engines with SCR and AdBlue.

Question 2

What is AdBlue on a Renault Blue dCi?

Accepted Answer

AdBlue is a urea solution injected into the exhaust to cut nitrogen oxides, from its own tank that needs topping up. When the tank runs low the car warns well ahead, and once it is empty the engine will not restart.

Question 3

Is a used Renault diesel worth it in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

For long motorway runs and towing, a dCi is frugal and pulls well. On mostly short trips the particulate filter rarely gets hot enough to clean itself, so a petrol or hybrid Renault suits better.

Question 4

Does a Renault diesel pay more car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the canton. Ticino applies a power factor of 2.5 to a diesel against 2.4 to a petrol car, while Geneva and Vaud tax CO₂, where a diesel's lower emissions can help.

Question 5

Which new Renault Trafic diesel versions are there in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The Trafic Passenger, Grand Passenger and SpaceClass come with the Blue dCi 110, 150 or 170, in Equilibre and Techno trims. The 110 is manual, the 150 manual or EDC, and the 170 EDC only.
