Question 1

Which petrol engine is best in a used Renault Clio?

Accepted Answer

For town driving a naturally aspirated SCe is simple and cheap to run, but slow on Swiss hills and motorways. The turbocharged TCe engines pull far better on mountain roads, and the 1.3 TCe is the strongest petrol Clio V.

Question 2

Does the Renault Clio 1.2 TCe burn oil?

Accepted Answer

Some early 1.2 TCe engines, the TCe 120 of the Clio IV among them, were known to consume oil. Check the oil level, look for blue smoke and ask whether Renault did any engine work under warranty.

Question 3

How is a petrol Renault Clio taxed in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your canton: some tax displacement, others weight, power or CO₂. A small-engined petrol Clio is taxed lightly in cantons that count displacement, such as Solothurn or Thurgau.

Question 4

Is the new Renault Clio sold with a petrol engine?

Accepted Answer

Yes: the TCe 115 petrol comes with a manual gearbox or the EDC dual-clutch automatic, and the E-Tech full hybrid 160 pairs a petrol engine with electric motors. Trims run from Evolution to Esprit Alpine.
