Question 1

What should I check on the clutch of a used manual Porsche 911?

Accepted Answer

Where the clutch bites and whether it slips under full load in a high gear. A rattle at idle that stops when you press the pedal points to a worn dual-mass flywheel, a costly job on a 911.

Question 2

Is a manual Porsche 911 slower than one with PDK?

Accepted Answer

On paper, yes: PDK shifts faster and gives quicker acceleration figures. Buyers choose the manual for the involvement it brings, not for lap times.

Question 3

How is a Porsche 911 over 30 years old taxed when bought from a dealer in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

A car first registered more than 30 years before the sale counts as a collector's item, so a dealer may charge VAT on the margin only and the invoice shows none. On a younger 911, a dealer charges 8.1% VAT on the whole price.

Question 4

Which new Porsche 911 can you still buy with a manual gearbox?

Accepted Answer

In the current range the manual comes on the 394 hp Carrera T, as coupé and Cabriolet, and on the 510 hp GT3 with Touring package and the GT3 S/C. Every other new 911 uses PDK.
