What wears on a manual Opel diesel?

The clutch and the dual-mass flywheel, which smooths the engine's vibrations. Rattling at idle or judder when pulling away suggests they are due, which is a costly job.

Is a manual Opel cheaper to maintain than an automatic?

Usually yes, as a manual gearbox is simpler than a dual-clutch or Easytronic unit and rarely fails. In stop-and-go traffic and on steep Swiss hill starts, though, the clutch works harder.

Can you still buy a new Opel with a manual gearbox?

Yes, but only with the 1.2 turbo petrol: the Corsa with 100 hp, the Combo with 110 hp and the Mokka with 136 hp. Every hybrid, diesel and electric Opel is automatic.
