Question 1

Is a new Volvo B4 or B5 a hybrid?

Accepted Answer

It is a mild hybrid: a 48-volt starter-generator assists the petrol engine and recovers braking energy. It has no charging socket and cannot drive on electricity alone, so it counts as a petrol car.

Question 2

Which new petrol Volvos have all-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

The XC60 and XC90 B5, both with 250 PS and AWD as standard. The XC40 B3 and B4 and the V60 B4 drive the front wheels.

Question 3

How is a new petrol Volvo taxed in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

Your canton decides the basis. Valais, Thurgau and Glarus tax displacement, so the XC40, V60, XC60 and XC90 sit close together, while Bern, St. Gallen and Aargau tax weight, where a seven-seat XC90 pays more than an XC40.

Question 4

Should I buy a new petrol Volvo or a used one?

Accepted Answer

A new one brings the full factory warranty and its first MFK five years away, but loses most value in its first years. A young used one costs less, and the older T4 and T5 petrols without mild-hybrid assistance are a simpler choice.
