Question 1

Which new Toyota hybrids can you buy in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The Aygo X, Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla hatchback and Touring Sports estate, Corolla Cross, C-HR, RAV4 and Prius. All have an automatic gearbox.

Question 2

What is the difference between a Toyota hybrid and a plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A self-charging hybrid recharges its small battery while driving and is never plugged in. The plug-in versions of the C-HR, RAV4 and Prius have a larger battery charged from a socket, for longer stretches on electric power alone.

Question 3

Which new Toyota hybrids have all-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

The RAV4, the Yaris Cross and the 2.0-litre C-HR and Corolla Cross come with all-wheel drive, from an electric motor on the rear axle. The plug-in RAV4 offers it too; the Prius, Yaris and Corolla are front-wheel drive.

Question 4

Do Toyota hybrids pay less car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

In some cantons. Ticino applies a lower power factor to a petrol hybrid, Fribourg gives a hybrid 15% off, and Nidwalden taxes a hybrid at half the rate; other cantons tax it like any petrol car.

Question 5

Should I buy a new or a used Toyota hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A new one brings the factory warranty and the latest hybrid system. Toyota hybrids hold up well over high mileage, so a young used Yaris, Corolla or RAV4 is a sound alternative at a lower price.
