Question 1

What is the difference between a Kia hybrid and plug-in hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A full hybrid (HEV) charges its small battery while driving and never plugs in. The plug-in Sportage and Sorento carry a battery of about 14 kWh that charges from a socket and covers several dozen kilometres on electricity.

Question 2

How powerful are the new Kia hybrids?

Accepted Answer

The Niro has 138 hp, the Seltos 154 hp or 180 hp with 4x4, and the Sorento 215 hp as a hybrid and 252 hp as a plug-in. The Sportage gives 239 hp as a hybrid and 288 hp as a plug-in, with front or four-wheel drive.

Question 3

Do hybrid Kias pay less car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

In some cantons. Fribourg takes 15% off for a hybrid and Ticino counts a petrol hybrid's power at a lower factor, while many other cantons tax a hybrid like any petrol car.

Question 4

Should I buy a new or a used Kia hybrid?

Accepted Answer

A new Kia hybrid starts the seven-year factory warranty on the day it is registered. A used Niro or Sportage hybrid costs less, and a young one keeps the rest of that warranty.
