Question 1

Which engines does the new BMW 5 Series have?

Accepted Answer

The petrol 520i with 208 hp, the diesel 520d with 197 hp and 540d xDrive with 303 hp, and the plug-in hybrids 530e with 299 hp and 550e xDrive with 489 hp. The electric i5 comes as eDrive40 with 340 hp, xDrive40 with 394 hp and M60 xDrive with 601 hp.

Question 2

How far does the new BMW 530e go on electricity?

Accepted Answer

Its 19 kWh battery gives roughly 90 to 100 km of WLTP electric range, depending on body and drive. The i5, with an 81 kWh battery, is rated at over 500 km.

Question 3

Is the BMW i5 exempt from car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

That depends on your canton. Zürich, Solothurn and Glarus exempt electric cars, while others give a rebate or tax them in full.

Question 4

Should I buy a new BMW 5 Series or a used one?

Accepted Answer

A new 5 Series brings the factory warranty and the latest G60 technology, but loses much of its value in the first years. A young used G30 costs far less and was also sold as a 530e plug-in hybrid.
