Question 1

How much is the car tax on a Mercedes GLC in Zürich?

Accepted Answer

Zürich adds an amount for displacement to one for total weight, both read from tables, so a 2.0-litre GLC pays less than an AMG V8 of similar weight. Label A or B cars get 80% or 50% off in the first year and the three after.

Question 2

Where do I register a used Mercedes GLC in Zürich?

Accepted Answer

At the Strassenverkehrsamt of the canton of Zürich, with the Fahrzeugausweis from the seller, proof of insurance and an identity document. You receive ZH plates, as the seller keeps theirs.

Question 3

Should I buy a used Mercedes GLC in Zürich or elsewhere in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The car tax follows your home canton, not where the car was sold, so a GLC bought in Aargau or Schwyz is taxed the same once registered in Zürich. A car on Swiss plates pays no tax on a change of owner anywhere.

Question 4

When is the MFK due on a used Mercedes GLC in Zürich?

Accepted Answer

Five years after first registration, then three years later and every two years after that; the Strassenverkehrsamt summons the holder. Check the date of the last MFK on the documents before you buy.
