Question 1

Which Mercedes GLC diesel engine is the best choice?

Accepted Answer

The 2.0-litre OM654 of the 2019 facelift and the second generation is the more modern choice, quieter and cleaner, with AdBlue treatment. The older 2.1-litre in the 220 d and 250 d is proven but noisier.

Question 2

What should I check on a used Mercedes GLC diesel?

Accepted Answer

That the particle filter regenerates normally and the AdBlue system shows no warnings. On a car used mostly for short trips, check the oil level as well, since repeated regenerations can dilute the oil with diesel.

Question 3

Does a diesel Mercedes GLC make sense in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

For long distances, a trailer or frequent motorway driving, yes: the diesel uses less fuel than the petrol GLC and pulls strongly at low revs. For mostly short trips, a petrol or a plug-in hybrid suits better.

Question 4

Which diesel engines does the new Mercedes GLC have?

Accepted Answer

The GLC 220 d 4MATIC with 197 hp, the GLC 300 d 4MATIC with 269 hp and the GLC 450 d 4MATIC with 367 hp, each with the nine-speed automatic. They are listed at their official price beside the used cars.
