Question 1

Which petrol engine is best in a used Mercedes A-Class?

Accepted Answer

For everyday driving the A 200 with the 1.33-litre engine is enough and frugal. The 2.0-litre in the A 220 and A 250 is more relaxed on motorways and mountain passes, and is often paired with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Question 2

What gearbox does a petrol Mercedes A-Class have?

Accepted Answer

Most have the 7G-DCT, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while some smaller-engined cars have a manual. The dual-clutch should pull away smoothly from cold; jerks when manoeuvring call for a check.

Question 3

Is a used Mercedes-AMG A 35 or A 45 a good buy?

Accepted Answer

Both use a turbocharged 2.0-litre with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the A 45 S with far more power. Look for a full service history, and check tyres and brakes, which wear fast on cars driven hard.

Question 4

Which versions does the new Mercedes A-Class come in, in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The new A-Class hatchback comes as the A 200 in Night Star trim with 163 hp, the A 220 4MATIC with 190 hp, the A 250 4MATIC with 224 hp and the AMG A 35 and A 45 S, all petrol and automatic, at list price beside the used cars.
