Question 1

Is a Mazda Skyactiv-G petrol engine reliable?

Accepted Answer

It has a good reputation: a simple design with no turbo and a timing chain. Many from 2019 add a 24-volt mild hybrid, labelled M Hybrid or e-Skyactiv, which smooths the start-stop system.

Question 2

Which petrol Mazda MX-5 is worth buying?

Accepted Answer

The current ND generation, from 2015, came with a 1.5 or a 2.0, the 2.0 raised to 184 hp in 2018. Most have a six-speed manual, and the RF adds a folding hard top.

Question 3

Is a petrol Mazda a good choice for short trips in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it avoids the particulate-filter trouble a diesel can have on short runs. In the hills the engines without a turbo need revs, so a loaded CX-5 is happier with the 2.5 than the 2.0.

Question 4

Which new petrol Mazda can you buy in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The Mazda3 and CX-30 with a 140 hp 2.5 or the 186 hp e-Skyactiv X, the CX-5 with a 141 hp 2.5 and the MX-5 with a 136 hp 1.5, manual or automatic, at list price beside the used cars.
