Question 1

What kind of automatic gearbox does the Mazda CX-5 have?

Accepted Answer

A six-speed Skyactiv-Drive with a torque converter that locks up early for a direct feel. It has no dual clutch, so it stays smooth in stop-and-go traffic and when manoeuvring.

Question 2

Is the Mazda CX-5 automatic gearbox reliable?

Accepted Answer

It is generally considered robust, and a fluid change is worth considering at high mileage. On a test drive, shifts should be smooth both cold and warm, without slipping or hard engagement.

Question 3

Can a Mazda CX-5 automatic tow a trailer?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the CX-5 is approved for a braked trailer, with the diesel and all-wheel-drive versions usually allowed the most. The exact limit for each car is on its Fahrzeugausweis, the Swiss registration document.

Question 4

Is the new Mazda CX-5 only available as an automatic?

Accepted Answer

Yes, every new CX-5 in Switzerland has a six-speed automatic, paired with the 2.5 e-Skyactiv G petrol mild hybrid of 141 hp. It comes with front- or i-Activ all-wheel drive, from Prime-Line to Homura.
