Question 1

What should I check on a used Land Rover diesel?

Accepted Answer

Whether the particulate filter and the AdBlue system work without warnings, since a life of short trips keeps the filter from regenerating. On early 2.0-litre Ingenium diesels the timing chain is also worth having checked.

Question 2

Is a used Land Rover diesel good for towing a caravan or horse trailer?

Accepted Answer

Yes, diesel torque suits heavy trailers, and the Discovery, Defender and Range Rover can tow up to 3,500 kg. Check the exact limit in the Fahrzeugausweis, which records the permitted trailer load.

Question 3

Does a diesel Land Rover pay more car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the canton. Cantons taxing displacement, such as Valais or Schaffhausen, charge a 3.0 V6 more than a 2.0 four-cylinder, while weight-based cantons like Bern look at the heavy body whatever the fuel.

Question 4

Which diesel engines does the new Land Rover come with?

Accepted Answer

Every model is sold new as a diesel, from the Evoque and Discovery Sport to the Defender, Discovery and Range Rover, all with automatic gearboxes. The Discovery comes with diesel engines only.
