Question 1

What does the T-GDi badge mean on a used Kia?

Accepted Answer

T-GDi stands for a turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection, unlike the older MPI and GDi engines without a turbo. The 1.0 T-GDi is a three-cylinder, the 1.6 T-GDi a four-cylinder.

Question 2

How much car tax does a petrol Kia pay in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the canton. Cantons that tax displacement, such as Valais, Thurgau and Solothurn, favour the small 1.0 T-GDi, while Bern taxes the car's weight and Vaud its weight, power and CO2.

Question 3

Is a used petrol Kia better than a diesel?

Accepted Answer

For mostly short trips, yes: a petrol engine avoids the particulate-filter clogging that short journeys cause in a diesel. Younger Kias are mostly petrol or hybrid anyway.

Question 4

Which new Kia models have petrol engines?

Accepted Answer

The Picanto with a 1.0 GDi, the Stonic and XCeed with a 1.0 T-GDi, partly as a mild hybrid, and the XCeed, K4, Seltos and Sportage with a 1.6 T-GDi of 150 or 180 hp. The Picanto and the 150 hp Sportage also come with a manual.
