Question 1

How do I check the battery of a used Kia e-Niro or EV6?

Accepted Answer

Ask a Kia garage for a battery health report. Kia covers the high-voltage battery for seven years or 150,000 km, so a young electric Kia often still has that cover.

Question 2

Does an electric Kia pay car tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the holder's canton. Zürich, Solothurn and Glarus exempt electric cars, Bern charges half the rate with 60% off in the first years, and Geneva adds a surcharge by weight on a heavy one such as the EV9.

Question 3

Does an electric Kia bought abroad pay tax on import?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Since 1 January 2024 electric cars pay the 4% automobile tax on import, plus 8.1% import VAT. An EV6 already on Swiss plates pays neither when it changes hands.

Question 4

Which new electric Kias are sold in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

The EV2 with 42.2 or 61 kWh, the EV3 and EV4 with 58.3 or 81.4 kWh, the EV5, the EV6 with up to 84 kWh, the EV9 with 99.8 kWh, and the PV5 people carrier. Dual-motor and GT versions add 4x4.
