Which gearbox does a used Jeep Grand Cherokee have?

Fourth-generation cars from 2011 to 2013 have a five-speed automatic, and from the 2013 facelift an eight-speed that is smoother and uses less fuel. The 4xe plug-in has an eight-speed automatic with an electric motor built in.

Is the Jeep Grand Cherokee eight-speed automatic reliable?

Generally yes: it is a ZF design used in many large cars. Its fluid is not always in the service schedule, so a change on a high-mileage car is worth considering.

Does the Jeep Grand Cherokee have a low-range gearbox?

Versions with Quadra-Trac II or Quadra-Drive II have a two-speed transfer case with low range, useful on steep tracks and when launching a boat. Check that it engages in both ranges.
