Question 1

What engine does a used petrol Honda Civic have?

Accepted Answer

The Civic built from 2017 until the hybrid generation has a 1.0 three-cylinder or a 1.5 four-cylinder VTEC Turbo. Earlier Civics used naturally aspirated 1.4 and 1.8 i-VTEC engines, and the Type R a 2.0.

Question 2

Does a petrol Honda need its valve clearances adjusted?

Accepted Answer

Many naturally aspirated Honda petrol engines have no hydraulic tappets, so the valve clearances are set at fixed intervals. Ask whether it was done; a ticking engine at idle can mean it is overdue.

Question 3

Was the Honda Civic Type R ever an automatic?

Accepted Answer

No, every Civic Type R has a six-speed manual. The 2015 generation and later use a 2.0 turbo, the earlier ones a high-revving naturally aspirated 2.0 i-VTEC.

Question 4

Is there a petrol Honda Jazz from after 2020?

Accepted Answer

No, the Jazz built from 2020 is sold only as an e:HEV hybrid. A petrol Jazz is from an earlier generation, the last of them with a 1.3 or 1.5 i-VTEC and a manual or CVT gearbox.

Question 5

Is a petrol Honda cheap to tax in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the canton. Those that tax engine size, such as Valais, Solothurn or Thurgau, favour the small 1.0 and 1.3 engines, while a weight-based canton such as Bern looks at the car's mass instead.
