Question 1

Is the Honda CVT gearbox reliable?

Accepted Answer

Honda's CVT is generally considered durable when its fluid is changed on schedule. On a test drive it should pull away smoothly, without judder or a whine that rises with speed.

Question 2

How does the Honda e:HEV hybrid drive work?

Accepted Answer

At most speeds an electric motor drives the wheels while the petrol engine generates electricity; at a steady cruise a clutch lets the engine drive the wheels directly. Honda calls it e-CVT, but there is no belt and no gears to shift.

Question 3

Is the Honda Civic Type R available as an automatic?

Accepted Answer

No, every Civic Type R has a six-speed manual gearbox. An automatic Civic is a CVT petrol or, from the 2022 generation, an e:HEV hybrid.

Question 4

Which new Honda models come as an automatic?

Accepted Answer

Every new Honda in Switzerland except the Civic Type R is an automatic e:HEV hybrid: the Jazz with 122 hp, the HR-V with 131 hp, and the Civic, ZR-V, CR-V and Prelude with a 2.0 and 184 hp. The CR-V also comes with all-wheel drive and as an e:PHEV plug-in.
