Question 1

How is car tax calculated in the canton of Vaud?

Accepted Answer

On total weight, at CHF 0.15 per kg up to 2,500 kg, plus CHF 1.60 per kW up to 100 kW and CHF 4.00 per kW above. CO₂ then adjusts it, from 90% off below 118 g/km to a surcharge from 187 g.

Question 2

Does an electric Ford pay car tax in Vaud?

Accepted Answer

Not at first: a new electric car is exempt for 24 months in Vaud. After that it counts 25% less weight and gets 90% off, so a Mustang Mach-E or Explorer stays cheap to tax.

Question 3

Is a Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid cheap to tax in Vaud?

Accepted Answer

Yes, its WLTP CO₂ is far below 118 g/km, so a Kuga plug-in registered from 2021 gets Vaud's 90% discount. The petrol and diesel versions get a smaller discount or none, depending on their CO₂.

Question 4

Which Ford has all-wheel drive for the Vaud Alps and the Jura?

Accepted Answer

The Ranger pick-up, the Kuga with AWD and the all-wheel-drive Mustang Mach-E suit Villars, Leysin or the Vallée de Joux in winter. The Fiesta, the Puma and most Focus models drive the front wheels, so winter tyres do the work.
