Question 1

What should I check on a used BMW X1 diesel?

Accepted Answer

On an E84 with the older N47 2.0 diesel, listen for a timing-chain rattle at idle, as the chain sits at the back of the engine. The B47 and three-cylinder B37 of the F48 are considered sturdier, and a full service history matters on all of them.

Question 2

Is an sDrive or an xDrive BMW X1 diesel better in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

An sDrive X1 drives the rear wheels on the E84 and the front wheels from the F48 on, and is lighter and cheaper to run. The xDrive all-wheel drive pays off in snow and on mountain passes.

Question 3

How is a BMW X1 diesel taxed in Switzerland?

Accepted Answer

By the holder's canton, each with its own basis. Valais, Glarus and Solothurn tax displacement, while Aargau and St. Gallen tax weight and power, so the same X1 costs a different amount from one canton to the next.

Question 4

Which diesel versions does the new BMW X1 come in?

Accepted Answer

The new X1 diesel comes as the front-drive sDrive18d with 150 hp and the xDrive20d with 163 hp and xDrive23d with 211 hp, both all-wheel drive. All are automatic, at list price beside the used cars.
