Question 1

Which used BMW 5 Series generation is the best buy?

Accepted Answer

The G30 from 2017 is lighter than the F10 and brought better driver assistance and the 530e plug-in hybrid. The F10 costs less, and after its 2013 facelift it is the more mature choice.

Question 2

Which BMW 5 Series diesel engine is the most reliable?

Accepted Answer

The straight-six 3.0 diesel of the 530d is considered very durable. On the four-cylinder 520d, the N47 used until about 2014 is known for timing chain wear, while the B47 that replaced it has a better record.

Question 3

What should I check on a used BMW 530e?

Accepted Answer

Ask whether the car was charged regularly and have the high-voltage battery's state of health read out. The G30 530e has a small battery, so its electric range suits short daily trips.
