Question 1

Which used BMW 4 Series is the best buy?

Accepted Answer

The Gran Coupé is the most practical, with five doors and a tailgate. Among engines, the 420d and the later 430i are economical, while the 440i and M440i offer six-cylinder performance.

Question 2

What should I check on a used BMW 4 Series Cabrio?

Accepted Answer

That the roof opens and closes smoothly, the seals are tight and no water gets in. On the first generation's folding metal roof, repairs to the mechanism are expensive.

Question 3

Is the BMW 4 Series the same car as the 3 Series?

Accepted Answer

Technically largely yes: it shares its platform, engines and gearboxes with the 3 Series of its time. It sits lower and is styled as a coupé, at the cost of rear space.

Question 4
