Question 1

Is the BMW 2 Series Coupé automatic only?

Accepted Answer

The G42 Coupé from 2021 is sold only with the eight-speed Steptronic. The earlier F22 Coupé and F23 Convertible were also offered with a six-speed manual, so check which gearbox a car has.

Question 2

Is the dual-clutch in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer reliable?

Accepted Answer

The seven-speed dual-clutch is generally sound but can be jerky at walking pace. On a test drive, check that it pulls away smoothly, also on a slope, and selects reverse without a clunk.

Question 3

Which automatic BMW 2 Series has all-wheel drive?

Accepted Answer

xDrive comes with an automatic on, for example, the M240i xDrive Coupé, the M235i xDrive Gran Coupé and the 225e and 230e xDrive plug-in Active Tourers. It is worth having on snowy Swiss roads.

Question 4

Is the new BMW 2 Series only sold as an automatic?

Accepted Answer

Yes, every new 2 Series is automatic: the Active Tourer and Gran Coupé with front-wheel drive or xDrive, the Coupé with rear-wheel drive or, on the M240i, xDrive. They are listed at list price beside the used cars.
