Question 1

Do electric Audis pay car tax in the canton of Zürich?

Accepted Answer

No, the e-tron, Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron and e-tron GT are exempt, like every electric and fuel-cell car registered in the canton of Zürich.

Question 2

How is car tax worked out for an Audi in Zürich?

Accepted Answer

The canton adds an amount for engine size to one for total weight, so a big-engined, heavy Q7 pays on both counts. A car in energy label A at up to 130 g/km gets 80% off in its first year and the three after, and label B 50%.

Question 3

Does a plug-in hybrid Audi get a rebate in Zürich?

Accepted Answer

Not as a hybrid: an A3 or Q5 e-hybrid is taxed on its engine size and weight like any other car. It gets the label A or B rebate in its first years only if its energy label qualifies.

Question 4

Where do I register an Audi bought in Zürich if I live elsewhere?

Accepted Answer

In your own canton: the car is registered where the holder lives, and that canton's tax applies. The seller keeps the Zürich plates and hands over the Fahrzeugausweis, the registration document.
