Question 1

How is car tax calculated for an Audi in Vaud?

Accepted Answer

On total weight and power: CHF 0.15 per kg up to 2,500 kg and CHF 1.60 per kW up to 100 kW, with higher rates above. CO₂ then adjusts the bill, from 90% off below 118 g/km to up to 50% more from 187 g.

Question 2

Does an electric Audi e-tron pay car tax in Vaud?

Accepted Answer

Not at first: a new electric car is exempt for 24 months. After that it counts 25% less weight and gets 90% off, so an e-tron pays little each year.

Question 3

Where do I register a used Audi bought in Vaud?

Accepted Answer

At the road traffic office of your own canton of residence, with the Fahrzeugausweis the seller hands over. The plates stay with the seller, so you fit your own.

Question 4

Is quattro worth it in the canton of Vaud?

Accepted Answer

Around Lausanne and along Lake Geneva it is a comfort rather than a need. In the Jura and the Vaud Alps, around Sainte-Croix or Leysin, quattro helps on snow, though its extra weight slightly raises Vaud's tax.
