Is the S tronic gearbox in a used Audi A3 reliable?

It is generally sound when it has been serviced. The seven-speed dry-clutch unit can judder when pulling away as its clutch wears, so test it cold, in slow traffic and when reversing.

Is there an Audi A3 automatic with quattro?

Yes: quattro was offered with the stronger engines, and the S3 and RS3 always have it. On Swiss winter and mountain roads it is the version many buyers look for.

Which versions does the new Audi A3 come in?

The new A3 is sold as Sportback, saloon and the raised allstreet, all with S tronic: the TFSI petrol with 150 PS, or the e-hybrid plug-in with 204 PS or, as a Sportback S line, 272 PS and a 20 kWh battery. Trims are the base and S line.

Most automatic A3s on the road use Audi's S tronic dual-clutch gearbox: a seven-speed dry-clutch unit behind the smaller TFSI and TDI engines, a wet-clutch box behind the stronger ones and quattro. The plug-in hybrids use it too.
